Born on December 24, 1978, Nicholas Hewley hasn't had the upbringing that a lot of Hollywood celebrities have enjoyed. In fact, most would hesitate to call Hewley a Hollywood celebrity at all, though he is almost certainly a household name. His parents were not rich, as many people seem to think that they were. The family's money stopped with Hewley's grandfather, who disowned Hewley's father when Michael Hewley was only twenty, newly-wed to a woman that his father disapproved of.

So Nicholas Hewley was brought up in a lower-middle-class home, with his father working two jobs and barely around to see his son grow up. Hewley's mother worked as a waitress, and Hewley spent most of his time with the teenaged girl next door who babysat him while his parents were away. When he was four years old, his grandfather, who had not spoken to his son in over five years, and who knew only of his grandson via a birth announcement in a small, local newspaper, passed away and left his fortune not to the son he had disowned, but to the grandson he had never met.

Hewley didn't know that his grandfather had money, and he didn't know that he was going to inherit his grandfather's money when he graduated from high school. It came as a shock to him when the lawyers showed up at his parents' home and congratulated him on his graduation, asked him where he was going to college, then told him that he was rich.

The news was a shock to Michael, but it was life-changing for Nicholas. Nicholas Hewley had grown up in a household that struggled to get by, and now he had the money to do whatever he wanted, with the only stipulation being that he not help his father out at all. That was fine with Hewley -- he didn't get along that well with his father anyway.

Rather than continuing on to college, Hewley decided that he would instead see the world in a way he'd never be able to without his grandfather's money. He toured Europe, and ended up moving in with a drop-dead-gorgeous British girl that was living in Scotland. He was head over heels in love with her, and in turn, she provided him with all the knowledge that he needed to create the novels that would become a best seller and add on to the fortune that he'd inherited.

The first Harry Potter took him nearly two years to write, and its release coincided with the birth of his daughter in 2000. It didn't take long for Hewley to become a household name, but for him, his life revolved around his daughter, and writing books. The only other thing that Hewley wanted to do was to be in movies, but he wanted them to be movies children could watch, because he wanted his daughter to be able to see them.

So he took a small part in the computer animated comedy, Finding Nemo, moving himself and his daughter to Los Angeles, where he continued writing and working on voice-acting in films.

Hewley currently resides in LA with his eight-year-old daughter, Clover.
